Dermal Fillers

Dermal filling has a new buzz word – “Pan facial rejuvenation”.

As our understanding of the ageing process advances, so does our approach. The face is the first thing we notice when we meet a new person. We register eyes, age and lips together with emotions such as happiness and sadness. Our facial appearance and its expressions are instrumental in first impressions we give to others.

A young face has a defined jaw line with smooth contours, and cheeks, lips and upper face full of volume. As we age however, facial volume is lost, bone starts to recede/ The combination of fat, muscle and connective tissue loss causes the overall shape and contours of our faces to change. Environmental damage (sun) also leads to significant changes in the condition of the skin and what is interesting is that gravity as a cause of ageing is largely discredited by those working in the aesthetics industry.

By adding in fillers to the less obvious areas of the face, significant improvements can be made. Our approach is structural instead of chasing lines as we once did. We know that fillers also encourage the skin to produce more collagen.

At Skinfinity we believe in prevention and dermal fillers play a major role in this approach as not only will they recreate volume and structure to facial features, they will also make you feel more condient and for most of us, facial attractiveness is the most important feature of our overall physical appearance.

Dermal fillers are substances naturally found in the skin. They restore a youthful appearance and resilience to skin by simply adding to the natural supply. Common areas treated are the cheeks and midface, nasolabial folds (nose to mouth lines), marionette lines (corners of the mouth) vertical lip lines, jaw line, and lips.

The treatment itself usually involves cleansing of the skin followed by a topical anaesthetic. The filler is injected using a cannula as this causes less tissue trauma and bruising. Treatments can last anywhere from 6-18 months depending on the type of filler used. Side effects are mild swelling and occasionally bruising but resolve within a week or two.

Products used are Emervel, Juvederm, Radiesse and Belotero.
